It depends, but I usually sketch the first frame in about 5-10 minutes, and the rest of the frames are about half that time. Going in with line art takes about 7ish minutes per frame. Coloring takes about 5mins per frame. Shading another 10. For a 3 framed, fully colored and shaded clip it took me little over an hour I believe. That was just a head turning up, upper body shot. I animate frame by frame, so yep, takes a bit longer.

Some times I storyboard and other times I dive straight into the work.

When I animate I usually animate the whole thing before I color everything. I color the important frames that start at the beginning of a new scene or has a new background.

Once everything is animated and colored I place them into movie maker and see if anything need anymore Inbetween frames to smooth it out.

THEN I might add shading. I usually don't.

Right now (since I'm only doing less serious stuff) I just do the lineart first without any sketches or storyboards, and usually color everything as I go. Since I'm working with MS Pain the process for making in-betweens and layering backgrounds is pretty round-a-bout and at times annoying, but there's a lot of creative copy and pasting, and I exploit the transparency feature whenever possible.

I'll usually run finished segments through movie maker to check that they work well enough, but I don't properly time and edit anything until after all of the frames are finished. I also only use a mouse, since my tablet has a way of slowing me down.

I did a process demonstration on my tumblr a few months ago. It was for a Sailor Moon fan character animation. Warning, these links are full of GIFs.

-This step is on paper but the rest of the process is digital. It's easier for me to storyboard on paper for some reason. In the case of my long-form animations, though, usually I have a comic version I can borrow for storyboards (and steal backgrounds from later Laughing)

-Next, a basic sketch to get the motion down.

-Refine the sketch, my least favorite part XP

-I do inking, color, shading, and backgrounds all at once.

-Add special effects where needed. I usually paint these right onto the frames.

-And last, syncing the sound and animation! Sometimes I move the animation to match the sound, sometimes it's reverse.

From storyboard to final product, this took 88 hours.

    I made a video hehe.
What I do it draw out the storyboard on paper so I know what to do, sketch them out on the computer, then lineart and colour. I add the background later.
What's in the video is just colouring and lineart because I forgot to record the sketch frames whoops.

I've tried storyboards, character design and stuff like that.
but i dont tend to keep projects like that.
I rather just draw and try from the get go.
